CELEBRATING A DECADE OF EXISTENCE...

SPECIAL INSPIRA ISSUE
remarkable. It has been my biggest support promoting me in all my endeavors.”
How did it feel to become the first woman to hold the post? She says, “I have got over the first woman syndrome long ago. For me the society is made up of individual human beings having special needs and not of men and women.”
Yet, about being a women officer in the peacekeeping operations Dr. Bedi says, “I think the very presence of a woman officer reduces violence. She is not standing there armed to the teeth. She is standing as a symbol of peace, life, dignity, and reconciliation.
All peacekeeping directly benefits women as they are most victimized by internal civil wars. When a woman in uniform wears a blue helmet or a blue cap it empowers women and inspires girls. It doesn't scare people.”

Dr. Kiran Bedi was honored with the UN medal for outstanding service. She was felicitated along with 22 other serving military and police officers. The medal was pinned by Assistant secretary General for peacekeeping operations Hedi Annabi.
Dr. Kiran Bedi truly embodies the message of world empowerment and prosperity depicted by the UN emblem. The blue UN cap and armband adoring her khaki clad image signifies power with a vision. It is the responsibility of each one of us to share this vision of a more secure and empowered world.

Q: A double-degree in Economics and double doctorate in Law are amazing!
A: Please note that I am Bachelor of Economics and Dr of Laws. I also have an honorary doctor's degree in economics.
Q: Which of the two subjects interested you more and why?
A: I think both. I started my career in economics as a university lecturer and I have written a couple of articles and a book in Economics. However, in the legal field I have specialized in taxes, which is very close to economics so I have had a great benefit in having the double degrees.
Q: How was it to excel in both specializations?
A: Since they are in many respects integrated I think it has only been a great advantage to have knowledge in both fields.
Q: Did you have career aspirations in mind while making the choice?
A: Not at all! It just happened.
Q: You have had experiences of being lecturer and a Professor when you were teaching Economics and Law. Later you became the CEO and Chairperson of Tetra Laval Group where you were on the consumer / industry side of the same subjects. How were the two experiences different from each other?
A: The academic world is very different from the corporate world. In the academic world you have your freedom to plan your day as you like and what interests
